Michigan has 299 "structurally deficient" bridges needing repair

Nearly 300 bridges across Michigan are considered structurally deficient and require replacement or rehabilitation, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. An additional 977 bridges in the state are rated "functionally obsolete" and should be modernized. "Monitoring and maintaining the safety of highway bridges and overpasses remains one of our top priorities," said Kirk Steudle, Michigan transportation director.
