Antarctic balloon sets record for longest balloon-borne experiment

A cosmic ray detector has been floating above Antarctica for more than 46 days, breaking the record for the longest balloon-based experiment on the continent. The Super-TIGER, which captures cosmic rays typically blocked by Earth's atmosphere, has already circled the South Pole 2½ times.
