Revised HIPAA rule gives health groups new challenges

The just-released omnibus rule on HIPAA privacy and security presents health groups with a new challenge: the need for data segmentation to ensure patient privacy protection. A provision in the rule mandates that health groups grant a patient's request not to disclose to insurers any data on treatments received if the patient pays the whole cost of those services.
