Mobile apps should be music to car owners' ears

Automakers are putting the pedal to the metal in this year's models to embed smartphone and tablet applications in their cars' dashboards. The apps are designed to create personal radio stations and to help motorists find places to eat, among other functions. Streaming-music services such as Pandora are completing deals with car companies for music applications, and other entertainment companies are scrambling to find space on dashboards as well.
