Report details mismanagement of DOE smart grid funds

An internal government investigation has revealed that millions of dollars in stimulus funding provided by the U.S. government to advance smart grid technology was improperly managed. The audit -- which was conducted by the Department of Energy's inspector general -- tracked 11 projects and revealed problems such as "weaknesses in reimbursement requests, cost-share contributions and coordination efforts," among other things.
