Council weighs new Syria resolution

The UN Security Council was expected to meet behind closed doors today to discuss a new phase to end the bloodletting in Syria as Arab states lined up behind a resolution calling for President Bashar Al-Assad to step down, followed by new elections. Russia indicated it would reject the measure, which could be put to a vote next week.
