Is the common core too challenging for kindergartners?

In the transition to the Common Core State Standards, teachers in some New York schools say the enhanced curriculum is too demanding for kindergarten students. Under the standards, young students are expected to demonstrate algebraic thinking, write reports and use diagrams in completing math equations. Some educators say the challenging curriculum has eliminated some time for puzzles, games, coloring and other play.
