Valero announces temporary refinery shutdown

Valero Energy says it will close its 245,000-barrel-per-day refinery in Texas City, Texas, two other crude units and a fluid catalytic cracking unit in Corpus Christi, Texas, for about 40 days. The shutdown was attributed to scheduled maintenance, logistics and economic conditions. Valero recently reported a fourth-quarter net loss of $3.3 billion and cut its capital spending budget for 2009.
