AAP issues pediatric guidelines on type 2 diabetes

The American Academy of Pediatrics, in collaboration with the AAFP and other groups, is releasing its first-ever guidelines on managing type 2 diabetes in children. The recommendations, published in the journal Pediatrics, advise screening all obese children for diabetes, encouraging a healthy diet and physical activity, and using early aggressive treatment with insulin shots for some children.
