Smart-grid technology budgets expected to increase, poll finds

Nearly two-thirds of utilities expect to have more money budgeted for smart-energy technologies over the next several years, a survey has found, but technical limitations continue to be a hurdle to adoption. The poll of 216 professionals in the electric, gas and water utility industries -- which was conducted jointly by Microsoft and OSIsoft -- found that 72% of respondents lack the necessary infrastructure for optimal smart-grid deployments.
