Mich. neighbors pay tribute to man's efforts to preserve nature

Nearly 75 residents of the Pine Creek Ridge development in Brighton, Mich., recently honored "Ranger" Pete Turgeon, a neighbor of 20 years who worked to ensure that the area's natural beauty wasn't destroyed by construction. "He was a simple man, well-versed in nature," says Ron Paler, president of the homeowners' association. "He committed himself to maintaining the subdivision to what it is now. ... You don't find too many people who take the job so seriously. It was his mission."
