Miss. Board of Pharmacy regulations mean "the fox is guarding the henhouse"

In 2011, Mississippi passed legislation granting the state Board of Pharmacy unprecedented authority to regulate pharmacy benefit managers, despite the fact the two are often in competition. The move sets up board members to benefit financially from the policies they create at the expense of consumers and taxpayers. "The current system allows the board to manipulate the health care system to increase pharmacy profits at the expense of consumers of these plans," writes Keith Plunkett. "... The Mississippi Legislature should move in the 2013 session to disallow the continued problematic role of the Board of Pharmacy's regulatory authority over PBMs."
