Top scientific scandals of 2012

In another feature from The Scientist, the magazine looked at the top science scandals of 2012 in light of findings that more than 65% of the 2,000 or so papers examined in a recent study were retracted because of ethical problems. Several initiatives are in the works to address the issue: a Retraction Index ("the number of retractions a journal has for every 1,000 papers published"), a Transparency Index ("how well a journal controls its manuscript review process"), and the Reproducibility Initiative.
