Kroger has closed on its $2.5 billion purchase of 227-store chain Harris Teeter. The latter becomes a subsidiary and is keeping its name, North Carolina headquarters and much of its autonomy. No store closures are planned, and job losses will be minimal, Kroger officials said. They also say Kroger might implement some of Harris Teeter's traits, such as its fresh-produce practices.
