Dispatchers give callers instructions on CPR, other medical aid

Dispatchers in Lynchburg, Va., can give 9-1-1 callers instructions on CPR and other types of medical aid until first responders arrive. Dispatchers worked with fire and EMS officials to develop procedures, and a computer program provides medical suggestions based on the nature of the call. Dispatcher Matt Closs sees many benefits. "You're able to do more for the community, you're able to do more for the patients who are calling in. You feel more confident," Closs said.
