Alcatel wins more borrowing capacity on banks' demand for notes

Banks eagerly lapped up Alcatel-Lucent's financing offer, so much so that the French telecom vendor said it "upsized" the amount to $2.69 billion as the company successfully bought more time to restructure itself and return to the black. The modest interest rate will also provide Alcatel with more resources, said sources familiar with the deal. Alcatel put up its valuable trove of patents and part of its profitable U.S.-based business to secure the loan.
