Medicare competitive bidding program for DME expands

The Medicare competitive bidding program for durable medical equipment that is being tested in nine cities will be expanded to 100 metropolitan regions beginning in July. The expansion is expected to save as much as $26 billion over 10 years and has prompted some experts to call for further use of competitive bidding in the Medicare program.
