Survey shows Calif. beach towns make healthy gains

A Gallup survey of more than 1,200 people living in the California cities of Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach found less smoking and obesity and more exercising and healthy eating since the Vitality City health initiative began in 2010. Not everyone surveyed participated in the program, but Susan Burden of the Beach Cities Health District said the data still show there have been substantial shifts in community wellness.
