Maryland mulls gift ban, other oversight changes

Maryland legislators are considering three proposals to limit corporate gift-giving to health care providers. The bills would ban gifts, require accreditation of cardiac catheterization labs and ease information sharing among oversight agencies. Drug and device makers will soon be required by the federal health reform law to record and report gifts or payments to doctors, but the measure does not ban gifts outright.
