Ontario hospitals' blood-conservation program educates patients

Guelph General Hospital is one of 25 Ontario hospitals participating in a blood-conservation program that advises patients on getting enough iron before surgery to minimize the need for transfusions. The initiative, launched in 2002, includes screening of iron levels and two meetings with patients before their operations.
