U.S. is urged to start identifying potential waste repositories

The U.S. should begin efforts to pinpoint new storage sites for radioactive waste, said Phil Sharp, a member of the federal blue-ribbon commission. Nothing would prevent the federal government from collecting data and soliciting advice from states and communities regarding potential locations, Sharp said. "State government and local communities simply have to be engaged in this decision," he added.
