SEC's Schapiro plans to slow the pace of IFRS implementation

Securities and Exchange Commission Chairwoman Mary Schapiro says she plans to put the brakes on some of former Chairman Christopher Cox's key projects and will fast-track other proposals. For example, Schapiro favors slowing down the adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards by U.S. companies. Last year, Cox promoted a timeline for companies large and small to adopt the international accounting standards by 2016. This week, the SEC extended the IFRS road map's comment period from Feb. 19 to April 20. The SEC said the delay will "give the public additional time to consider thoroughly the matters addressed by the release."
