Study to compare procedures' capacity to detect coronary artery clogs

An international team of researchers has enrolled the first 12 patients in a yearlong study that will compare the performances of CT angiogram, CT perfusion imaging, SPECT and cardiac catheterization in accurately detecting early signs of coronary artery blockages in patients considered to be at higher risk of coronary artery disease. The study eventually will involve about 400 participants. The study aims to pinpoint the most applicable procedures "in predicting patients who need catheterization or angioplasty, or bypass surgery," the senior study investigator said.
