White House seeks FDA budget increase for food, drug safety

The White House is requesting an increase of $130 million in the FDA budget to advance safety initiatives involving food, drugs and medical devices. From the proposed budget, FDA is eyeing a $42.2 million increase solely devoted to food-safety measures to prevent food-borne diseases, safeguard preparation practices for food items imported into the U.S. and for the construction of the agency's overseas offices, particularly in China.
