Digital signs track age and gender of shoppers

NEC Electronics has designed digital displays that track the age, gender and number of shoppers that pass by to help retailers target in-store ads to their audience. The technology scans faces captured on a video camera embedded in the signage, and a software program determines gender and roughly calculates ages. The new technology brings up privacy concerns for some retailers and consumers.
