Alaska lawmaker takes aim at RFS

Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, said she is "in good company" in asking for a review of the Renewable Fuel Standard. The oil industry is pushing back against the RFS because it affects profit margins, according to Fuels America, pointing out that oil companies lost more than $46 billion in potential profit in 2011 because of ethanol. A study by the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory confirms that the RFS barely affects global food costs and land use, while reducing oil prices, curbing demand for imported oil and creating jobs, said Bob Dinneen, president and CEO of the Renewable Fuels Association.
