Researchers at Monash University in Australia derived and purified lens epithelium, the tissue that serves as the base for the growth of the lens of the eye. The researchers said they were able to coax the precursor cells to turn into lens cells. The findings could speed the development of treatments for eye conditions by allowing testing on tissues in the lab.
