Calif. bill would place liability-insurance requirement on gun owners

A bill in California would require gun owners to obtain liability coverage for any injuries and damages that could result from their firearms. The legislation was spurred by the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Conn., Assemblyman Philip Ting said. "There's basically a cost that is borne by the taxpayers when accidents occur. ... I don't think that taxpayers should be footing those bills," Ting says.
