Duke Energy decides to retire Crystal River nuclear facility

Duke Energy will permanently close its Crystal River nuclear plant in Florida, the company announced today. The facility has been temporarily shut down since 2009. "This has been an arduous process of modeling, engineering, analysis and evaluation over many months. The decision was very difficult, but it is the right choice," said Jim Rogers, chairman, president and CEO of Duke Energy.
