Experts ID factors that raise health care costs in diabetes

Impaired renal function, poor glycemic control and proteinuria were associated with higher mean five-year health costs for diabetes patients, a Canadian study published in Diabetes Care revealed. Costs were also higher among older patients, those with comorbidities or lower socioeconomic status and patients who had diabetes for longer.
