Lengthening the Achilles tendon might reduce foot ulcer risk

Adding a procedure to lengthen the Achilles tendon helped reduce the recurrence of diabetes-related ulcers of the forefoot and midfoot in a study published in the journal Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. However, excessive lengthening or rupture of the Achilles tendon increases the risk for difficult-to-treat heel ulcers, the researchers noted.
