Tattoo removal program gives young people a clean slate

About 40 teenagers and adults receive tattoo removal treatments each month through Clean Slate, a Santa Rosa, Calif., tattoo removal program run by Social Advocates for Youth. "Here you have young people who want to improve their lives, but they have this blotch of ink barring them," said dermatologist Mike Haiman of Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, who helped start the program. Clinic patients say getting tattoos removed helps them get jobs and break away from gangs or unhealthy behaviors.
