All about digestion and metabolism

Many people mistakenly believe their rate of digestion is linked to their rate of metabolism, when they really are separate bodily processes, says dietitian Tamara Duker Freuman. Digestion is measured by transit time and refers to how the body breaks down food and disposes of waste through the gastrointestinal tract, while metabolism, measured by calories expended, is the process by which cells use energy derived from that food.
