It ain't over for copper yet

Linking every house in the country to a fiber-optic network could be prohibitively expensive, and it may not be a capital outlay the Bells are willing to make, given proposed regulatory changes. Yet, copper still shines, as recent developments have eked out tremendous broadband speeds from copper wire, breathing new life into the nation's 1.5 billion miles of wiring.
