Ammonia leaks lead to $700,000 fine for Calif. deli-meat company

Two ammonia leaks at the south San Francisco plant run by Columbus Foods, which produces deli meats, have resulted in a $700,000 fine imposed by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Justice Department. A 200-pound plume of gas escaped during the most recent incident, which resulted in nearly 50 people seeking medical attention and the closing of some roads in the area.
