Soldiers turn to teaching

The "Troops to Teachers" program, which puts military personnel in classrooms across the country, has placed 274 military retirees in Tennessee schools since the program was initiated in that state in 1995. The U.S. Department of Defense started the program in 1994 to help recruit teachers into schools with a preponderance of low-income students.
