Australia embraces satellite to bring broadband to the Outback

U.S.-based Loral Space and Communications has been chosen by the government of Australia to construct two Ka-band satellites to help bring broadband Internet to the continent's most rural areas. The satellites, which are scheduled to be launched in 2015, will deliver high-speed access to about 200,000 homes and businesses as part of a broader AU$35.9 billion project by the government-owned NBN Co.
