Companies send newer bosses undercover

An up-and-coming manager at dialysis company DaVita was sent on an "Undercover Boss"-style program in which she worked alongside dialysis technicians to get a feel for life on the front lines. That's good for the company and individual leaders, says Vice President Carolyn Kibler, herself a graduate of the program. "I truly understand the challenges our front-line teams face every day," she says. "It's like a layer of my skin."
