Gates Foundation says equity investment is consistent with goals

The nonprofit Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation said its $2 million equity infusion into educational-applications developer Inigral, its first such investment in a for-profit venture, reflects its mission of supporting "innovative education technology," adding that it will use its stake in the firm to expand access to Inigral social-media tools to schools that receive funding through Pell grants.
