Ga. reactor builders are learning from Chinese project, exec says

Builders of two new reactors at Southern Co.'s Plant Vogtle in Georgia are gaining valuable insights from progress at the Sanmen 1 reactor project in China, a Southern Nuclear executive said. The changing of onsite fabrication of some parts from a horizontal to a vertical alignment is one example. "Lessons are learned during their construction phase, then it allows our design for Units 3 and 4 to already have incorporated those lessons before we get to the field," said Mark Rauckhorst, Southern Nuclear's construction vice president for the new Plant Vogtle units.
