U.S. regulators likely to approve AMR-US Airways merger, experts say

U.S. regulators would probably approve a merger between US Airways and American Airlines, experts say. "If a merger combines complementary networks, that could bring benefits to consumers," said Alison Smith, an antitrust lawyer not involved in the AMR deal. However, the Justice Department could require the sale of some takeoff and landing slots at busy airports.
