Scientist: Fertilizer use has damaged China soil

Widespread use of nitrogen fertilizers across China since the 1980s has left some cropland unusable and contributed to a drastic increase in acidification of soil, Chinese scientist Zhang Fusuo warns. Corn, tea and some species of trees are no longer able to grow, Zhang says.
