HIV severity, treatment not linked to mental problems in youths

Data from 319 HIV-positive youths showed little evidence associating disease severity or antiretroviral therapy with psychiatric problems among those infected around the time of birth. However, researchers noted that more severe HIV disease was linked to worse cognitive functioning and social skills. The findings appear in the journal Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine.
