Calif. state senator wants milestones for text-to-9-1-1 rollout

California state Sen. Alex Padilla wants the state to set 2013 and 2014 benchmarks for implementing Next Generation 9-1-1 services such as text-to-9-1-1 capabilities. Padilla, who is chairman of the state Senate Energy, Utilities and Communications Committee, said with new technology "we’re envisioning a way to access emergency services in a way that’s much more helpful and immediate" and to give government the ability to quickly distribute information.
