"Cash mobs" spread to locally owned restaurants

Consumers have organized "cash mobs" to funnel money to small, local shops, and now they are applying the same concept to help local restaurants. Andrew Samtoy, the leader of the cash-mob scene, partnered with Restaurant.com to organize "dish mobs" to support independent eateries in various cities. The mobs can help consumers "break the chain habit and try a place that's right around the corner that [they've] never discovered before," according to Christopher Krohn of Restaurant.com.
