E9-1-1 could lead to using Facebook for emergency updates

The development of E9-1-1 eventually could allow government agencies to use Facebook to disseminate public safety information, according to this article, despite some of the challenges involved. Social media already is used to keep the public informed, as seen by the hundreds of people who "liked" the Facebook page of the Newport News (Va.) Public Schools system before Hurricane Sandy.
