Growth factor lowers complications after mandible reconstruction

All but one out of six patients who underwent mandible repair using recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 experienced no post-surgical infections, resorption or other complications, researchers report in JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery. Surgeons used fibula bone that contained collagen sponges soaked in rhBMP-2, filling any spaces with demineralized bone matrix.
