Study ties healthier lifestyle to lower GDM risk

About 78% of obese pregnant women who underwent caloric restriction with mild physical activity were able to stay within the acceptable-weight-gain range, compared with 30% of those in the control group, a study found. The lifestyle-change treatment also lowered the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus, hypertension and preterm delivery, according to the study that is to be presented at the annual meeting of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
