Health advocates hail drop in trans fatty acid levels

Trans fatty acid levels in the blood of white American adults dropped 58% between 2000 and 2009, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2006 began requiring that trans fat amounts be listed on food-nutrition labels. Also credited in the decline is heightened awareness about heart disease risk associated with trans fats, public health experts say. The CDC's findings were announced in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
