CDNs face profit pressure despite broader demand for services

Content-delivery networks are diversifying into other areas because declines in the cost of doing business have drawn competitors into the marketplace, curtailing earnings, executives say. Costs for operating CDNs fell about 15% last year, encouraging clients of companies such as Akamai to enter the business.
